Charlie arrived in the choir room five minutes earlier than he and Mr. Schuester had agreed on for his audition to make sure that the band was prepared for his song. The Spanish teacher (a ‘dying language’, as Ms. Sylvester put it, that Charlie had very little interest in) had assured him that he would print out the sheet music and have everything prepared, but Charlie preferred to personal make sure everything was ready.
“Hey, Charlie!” Mr. Schuester grinned as he walked into the room. The band had already been there, and were tuning their instruments as Charlie handed out the sheet music, identical copies of which he assumed were in Schuester’s hands, if the slight drop in his smile was anything to go by.
“Good afternoon Mr. Schuester” Charlie said politely. “I hope you’re prepared to be taken by storm. I’d say I’ve been rehearsing or nervous, but those would be lies. I’ve been singing this song for most of my life, so rehearsal isn’t really required and, as Head Cheerio, Ms. Sylvester has personally helped me remove any pre-performance feelings other than the strive to win.” Charlie ended the brief conversation with a smile as he saw the members of the glee club begin to file in and take their places in the seats.
There were a lot of hot boys in the group, that was certain. Charlie was slightly disappointed to see the way Sam McSexy Evans was looking at Kurt Hummel, but he couldn’t bad mouth Hummel. The guy deserved a hell of a lot of respect. Mr. Schuester attempted to introduce Charlie, but the Cheerio cut him off rather quickly.
“Hello there New Directions. My name is Charlie Irving. Most of you will recognise me from the Cheerios, our school squad which I am now captain of. I’m sure this will tell you how excellent my dancing skills are, but I recently decided to broaden my horizons and share my impeccable singing skills with you. Plus, it would be nice to get two national titles in one year. That being said, this is my rendition of Anything You Can Do from the classic musical Annie Get Your Gun. If you know the words, feel free to join in.” Charlie smirked at Berry as he said the title of the song, snapping his fingers as the music begun.
He couldn’t help but grin at the reaction he was getting to his performance. He was certainly getting in to this club. Berry smiled to be leading in the harmonies and reactionary lyrics, which made him smile even more at the confused and angry look on her face. It was about time she realised there was someone so much better than her! What topped it off was the long note at about half way through the song, which had many shocked expressions on the faces of the members and an impromptu round of applause.
The song soon ended, leaving Charlie to do nothing but smirk and bow as the round of applause he was so used to began.

✄ --- STUCK IN THIS WHIRLWIND --- MY LIFE'S BEEN SPINNING ROUND MY HEAD
Kurt picked at the frayed end of his messenger bag strap and massaged Sam’s back with the other, practically sitting in the boys lap. Mr. Schue walked in with one of his infamous and sometimes slightly annoying grins, and Kurt groaned. He was hoping that today would be a normal rehearsal, but when that type of look flitted across Shuester’s face… something was coming up. Kurt hoped that it was some sort of announcement about Regionals or Sectionals, maybe he was getting re-married to some random woman he met. Maybe Emma? Nah. They had too much obvious tension to get together.
After rolling his eyes and let his gaze linger on Sam’s eyes for a moment before pulling apart a little and leaning back in his chair. Mr. Schue was welcoming in someone new, who Kurt hadn’t noticed before. He wondered what was with all of the new and cute guys for a moment… His eyes widened at the thought of someone coming after him, and using cute guys as a distraction. He noticed he was tensed up when Sam’s hand swung over and rubbed his shoulders lightly, a worried look showing obviously across his features. ”I’m fine, I’m fine.” He whispered and chuckled a bit at his insanity. He had been reading too many mystery novels and listening to No Good Deed from Wicked all night probably wasn’t the best choice. Oh, well.
Kurt squinted and got a better look at the curly-headed guy, mentally smacking himself on the forehead. Of course he had seen Charlie before. God, he was only the head Cheerio, and a friend of Kurt’s. Maybe it was because his curls were crazily untamed and the fact that Charlie had stepped foot into the choir room – of all places – that set him off. Besides, Quinn was constantly envious of the other boy, which caused crazy and unneeded jealousy. Quinn overreacted about things most of the time, and trying to get ahead of Charlie was one. When Quinn had drama, the entire New Directions somehow managed to catch it too. Kurt sunk back into his chair and thought ’Oh, what the hell.’ before winding a slender arm around Sam’s torso.
” “Hello there New Directions. My name is Charlie Irving. Most of you will recognize me from the Cheerios, our school squad which I am now captain of. If you know the words, feel free to join in.””
Kurt muffled his laughter because he could almost literally feel Rachel’s annoyed glare from across the room. Rachel had been griping about singing about that song for a long while, and Kurt would be hearing the worst of it for a long while.
Kurt’s eyebrows raised considerably as Charlie belted out the first few words, and soon enough, the song was over. While standing and clapping furiously, Kurt tugged Sam up with him to clap. He would have to ask Charlie why in the hell he wanted to join Glee club in the first place, anyway. He made a mental note to ask Charlie that question as soon as he could and then elbowed Mercedes in the ribs. ”He’s great, right?” He was expecting some type of question from her too, since Mercedes was usually one to judge quickly (in a non-harmful way, unless it was a wardrobe issue), so he always loved getting her opinion on things. ”Great job, Charlie!” He clapped along with the rest of the club before the noise quieted down, and then yanked a chair down from the upper riser and sat it in the empty space beside him, patting it and beckoning him over… all while gripping Sam’s hand.

Post by MERCEDES JONES on Feb 9, 2012 17:42:51 GMT -6
Mercedes had initially been apprehensive when she saw the boy in the Cheerios uniform entering the room, as she imagined many others gleeks had also felt. Whenever anyone they didn’t know approached them while wearing a Cheerio uniform or letterman jacket they usual dived for their waterproof anoraks.
That being said, Mercedes wasn’t as in as good a place to judge a Cheerio as Tina or Rachel were. She was one of the five members of glee that had actually been a member of the Cheerios at one point or another. Interestingly enough, Sam had kissed every member of the once-Cheerios who were in glee. Even the male one. Fetish much? No, now wasn’t the time to think about her would-be summer romance, who’d broken up with her a few weeks after school ended, only for Kurt to come scurrying to her a week or two after with a ‘big secret.’
Of course, Mercedes couldn’t have screamed and shouted at Kurt like she wanted to. She had to be happy for Kurt, those were the rules, and it’s not like he knew about the whole Samcedes relationship and he would never find out from her. Bringing her mind back to the classroom, Mercedes actually found herself enjoying the talented Cheerio’s audition. He sung one of her favourite songs, and it helped that she could practically hear Rachel’s teeth grinding. Getting into the swing of the song, Mercedes stood up in her place and led the others in singing the backing vocals and the “no you can’t!” parts. She found herself grinning all the way through, even seeing Rachel crack a small smile that was quickly disguised as the glee club burst into a roar of applause.
”He’s great, right?” Kurt asked from the side of her, digging his elbow into her ribs.
“Yeah, he was pretty awesome!” Mercedes replied, her smile faltering at Kurt’s attempt at friendship. Who the hell was he? Turning her attention back to the front of the room, Mercedes watched the grinning Cheerio take a seat on the front row next to Kurt as Mr. Schue seemed to be prepared for a droning session about something none of them particularly cared about.
“Mr. Schuester? I have a song I’d like to sing.” She announced, standing up from her seat and walking to the centre of the room before the teacher could protest. She’d had this song planned for a while now and the band were all prepared for it.
“This summer was kind of hard for me. I had happiness dangled in my face only for it to be snatched away” she glared directly into Sam’s eyes. “I also learnt the true meaning of betrayal. It was while I was spending my summer more or less alone” at this point her gaze shifted to Kurt “that I had time to think about what I want from my life. I am stone sick of being treated like an instrument the band plays. Like a wailing machine saved for the last few power notes of every song, or brought out for ethnicity votes to sing a ‘black girl’ song. I honestly feel betrayed by almost everyone I thought had my interests at heart. Therefore, I’ve learned that sometimes it’s just as good to be alone as it is to be part of a team sometimes, and to paraphrase a very wise man, sometimes when you’re special you have to accept that you’re going to be alone. Therefore, I would like to sing Out Here On My Own from the seminal classic Fame!” Without waiting for response, Mercedes begun to sing as the band backed her up.
And then she was singing on the stage of the auditorium, spotlight shining down on her tumbling curls and her sexy little black dress as she simply stood in the centre of the stage and sung her heart, soul and lungs out, not only for her fellow New Directioners in the audience, but for all the world to hear. This was her battle cry and her acceptance of the independence the world was forcing on her. Before she even knew it, the song was slowing to a finish and she was back in the choir room, her hair returned to it’s semi-afro state and her black dress replaced by her street clothes, her eyes falling on the other gleeks as she gently sung the final notes. The music abruptly finished and she wordlessly waited for reactions. No doubt Kurt would have something to say about her attitude, and Rachel would surely explode at the fact that two of her favourite Broadway songs had been performed by someone else in the same ten minutes. The joys of being in glee club.
