Hailey wandered towards her locker on her third day at William McKinley High. The first two days hadn't been too bad. She had managed to not get lost, which was a bonus, and the classes hadn't been too bad. It seemed to be the same, or mostly the same in each American high school. The teachers had been nice enough so far, and some of them were rather helpful if she didn't understand something. Though if that was the case, she would normally wait till the end of class and ask a question or two before her next class.
Seeing that she had a free period, she wondered if there was anyone in the choir room. She had heard about the glee club, New Directions, and despite her not wanting to sing in front of people she didn't know, Hailey decided to just make a fresh start with that little weakness, and just go for it. What do I have to lose, she thought to herself, as she hugged her purple folder and pencil case. The notice on the bulletin board stated that they had positions left, and knew that today was the day to audition.
Wandering to where she remembered where the room was, she slowly walked inside, and saw a couple of members there. She wasn't sure of who they were, as really she had been keeping to herself a lot. Looking around, she gave a shy wave, and a small smile. "Hey. My name's Hailey. Hailey Blaze. I saw that you were after new members. I, um, would like to audition." Slowly putting her folder, pencil case and bag on a spare chair, she stood near the piano.
Looking around, she swallowed silently, "I'll be singing These Four Walls by Miley Cyrus." Clearing her throat just a little, the music began to play, and she let it wash over her till it was time to open her mouth.
These four walls
They whisper to me
They know a secret
I knew they would not keep
Didn't take long for the room to fill with trust
And these four walls came down around us
Hailey felt the confidence slowly build up inside of her, and then she got into the chorus, finding her voice properly.
It must have been something that send me out of my head
With the words so radical
And not what I meant
Now I wait for a break in the silence 'cause it's all that you left
Just me and these four walls again
Hailey looked at the group in front of her, and hoped that what she was singing was okay, but it was one that she was comfortable singing right now.
It's hard now to let you be
I won't make excuses
I've made my peace
Didn't take long for me to lose the trust
'Cause these four walls were not strong enough
ooooh
It must have been something that send me out of my head
With the words so radical
And not what I meant
Now I wait for a break in the silence 'cause it's all that you left
Just me and these four walls again
Hailey was more than ready to get into the bridge section, feeling the song more.
Yeah, it's difficult
Watching us fade
Knowing it's all my fault
My mistake
Yeah, it's difficult
Letting you down
Knowing it's all my fault
You're not around
It must have been something that send me out of my head
With the words so radical
And not what I meant
Now I wait for a break in the silence 'cause it's all that you left
Just me and these four walls again
Yeah
Ooh
These four walls again
At the last of the lyrics to sing she felt a tear fall down her face. She hadn't really noticed that she was getting a little emotional over the song. Though, really, she could only think of Austin, the boy who she left behind in Las Vegas. Wiping the tear away, Hailey awaited the verdict of what the others thought.
